Wrinkles of the skin are caused by a multitude of factors. Exposure to sunlight and the elements, our diets and the uncontrollable effects of time all take their toll. The appearance of wrinkles is therefore linked with ageing and can make people look and feel tired in themselves.
Botulinum toxin, an injectable medicine, is now the world's number one non - surgical treatment. It is used to subtly soften wrinkles and to create a youthful, refreshed look. The amount of toxin used is very small and is extremely safe. It works by reversibly relaxing the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, the lines that appear with facial expression.
Traditionally, treatments are performed on three areas of the upper face:
- Forehead 'worry' lines - the wrinkles formed when we raise our eyebrows
- Glabellar 'frown' region - the area of the face between the eyebrows where strong wrinkles form
- Crow's feet - the areas around the outside of the eyes. Wrinkles form here when we squint or smile

Additional areas may also be treated on a bespoke basis including fine lines across the top of the nose (known as the 'bunny line's) and chin dimpling.
Static wrinkles in contrast are wrinkles that are visible even at rest, without performing facial expression. These may not improve through the use of Botulinum toxin but through another treatment using products called dermal fillers.
The most common example of static wrinkles are the nasolabial or smile lines that from the sides of the nose to the sides of the mouth. Please note that all of our wrinkle treatments are carried out by a qualified medical doctor and that a consultation is mandatory before undertaking any treatments.
